Basix Info

The Building Sustainability Index (BASIX) aims to deliver equitable, effective water and greenhouse gas reductions. BASIX is one of the strongest sustainable planning measures to be undertaken in Australia. BASIX is implemented under the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act and is an integrated part of the planning system.

BASIX reduces water and energy consumption and also provides long term financial savings for the homeowner – and a valuable contribution to the sustainable future of our communities.

BASIX classifies colour into light, medium and dark on the basis of their solar absorptance. Light coloured roof tiles keep cooler than darker coloured roof tiles and this cooler temperature can mean reduced energy costs for cooling a home or building.
